Finishing touches on Arab Spring

Revisiting Arab Spring in 2013 with more depth

This is a piece that I started back in April of 2011, shortly after the start of the Arab Spring in the middle east. People throughout the Arab world made their voices heard and felt around the world as leaders desperately held onto power with violence, fear, and propaganda. When I first posted about this piece I wrote:
"The colors and emotions in the painting are influenced by the turmoil in the Arab world. I wanted to put together hot and cold colors together not only in the composition, but in the texture of her skin. I wanted her to be mixed with emotions and thought, but yet explosively expressive. One can only image the landscape of emotions that many in the Arab world are experiencing this spring"

Well this piece has been staring at me in my studio, with a number of large pieces. I had been wanting to frame the piece, however, I decided to continue elements of the piece off the campus using chicken wire and paper-mache. I wanted to add depth to the painting and even more focus to gaze. I wanted the fabrique to have the feel that is was pulled off the campus mixing art with reality. Below is a time lapse video of just the painting part:
