Pueo: The Hawaiian Owl 12" x 22"

The Pueo, or Hawaiian owl finds the many open pasture lands of upcountry an ideal home. From the studio in Kula if you look long enough you will see a pueo circling around looking for field mice. The background of this painting is filled with the clouds moving over Makawao and the dark low level clouds of upcountry. I used some light colors in the foreground to show the colors of spring. Finally, I put the Pueo on an old kiawe post not far from the house, keenly watching what is going on.
